Crafting powerful gear at the Adamantine Forge is one of the most rewarding milestones during the early chapters of Baldur's Gate 3. However, players quickly discover that the rare material required to operate the forge is extremely scarce in the Underdark. Knowing exactly how many pieces exist and where to locate them ensures you do not miss out on top-tier equipment.

Total Amount of Mithral Ore Available

In Baldur's Gate 3, there are only two deposits of Mithral Ore available in the entire game. Because each crafted item requires one piece of ore alongside a specific mold, you can only forge two Adamantine items per playthrough. Players must choose carefully between options like splint armor, scale mail, shields, or weapons based on their party composition.

Locating the First Ore Deposit

The first Mithral Ore deposit is located southwest of the Ancient Forge waypoint in Grymforge. To reach it, head down the rocky path toward the lava flows until you see a natural stone bridge spanning a magma chasm. Crossing this area triggers an ambush by Magma Mephits, so prepare for flame-based combat before approaching the glowing vein.

Finding the Second Ore Deposit

The second deposit is situated on the eastern side of the Adamantine Forge area. From the main forge platform, head down the steps toward the lava rivers where another large vein of ore sits embedded in the rock wall. Defeating the nearby lava creatures will allow you to safely harvest the second and final piece of ore.

How to Harvest and Use the Ore

Mithral Ore deposits are immune to most standard weapon attacks and require specific damage types to break. Using bludgeoning weapons or force damage spells like Eldritch Blast is the most effective way to shatter the vein. Once broken, collect the ore into your inventory and take it directly to the forge crucible alongside your chosen mold to craft your legendary gear.
